Global Legal & Sustainable Timber Forum 2026 to Be Held in Macao on 22–23 September, with Significant Increase in Participation from Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking Countries

MACAU, September 15 - The Global Legal & Sustainable Timber Forum 2026 (GLSTF 2026), co-hosted by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) of the Macao SAR and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), and organised by the Secretariat of the Global Green Supply Chains Initiative (GGSC), will take place at the Galaxy International Convention Center in Macao from 22 to 23 September. With the theme of “Innovation and Transformation – Pursuing Avenues for Resilient and Sustainable Global Timber Industries”, the event is expected to attract key players in the timber and home furnishing sectors from 49 countries and regions worldwide, providing an opportunity for high-level exchange and collaboration.

There will be a significant increase in the calibre and level of international participation in this year’s forum, with high-level officials and delegations from numerous countries, including Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking nations and ASEAN member states, attending for the first time. This demonstrates the ongoing growth of the international “circle of friends” within the timber industry. A diverse range of activities will be organised during the forum to leverage Macao’s unique strengths as a bridgehead for Chinese enterprises expanding overseas and as a global platform for exchange and co-operation within the timber industry. These activities will include international specialised sub-forums, a timber display, business matchings, and the release of international co-operation achievements. The ultimate goal is to build a comprehensive platform for policy dialogue, technical exchange, and business co-operation across the sector.

With its international reach continuously expanding, the GLSTF 2026 will see the debut of several new participants, including the Ministry of the Environment, Forest Resources, Coastal Protection and Climate Change of the Togolese Republic, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand, and international organisations. Senior officials from Mozambique and an official Mexican delegation will also be attending the event for the first time. This will further reinforce Macao’s role as a “precise connector” for co-operation between China and Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries, establishing a premier global dialogue hub for the timber industry.

The GLSTF 2026 will drive the implementation of international co-operation achievements and transnational action plans. The following major achievements will be presented at the event: “Action Framework 2026 for Promoting Legal and Sustainable Timber Supply Chains”, “A Milestone for Global Timber Index (GTI) Platform - Price Index”, and “Application and Operation of Blockchain-based Timber Traceability System-Trading Platform (BTTS-TP)”. Business co-operation agreements will also be signed on-site.

Hosting the inaugural Ad-hoc Macao Financing & Investment Matching to enhance the green industry ecosystem

The GLSTF 2026 will adopt an integrated model combining forum discussions, industry exhibitions, and precise matching to create opportunities for information sharing and project collaboration across the domestic and international timber industry chain. There will be nearly 20 diverse complementary activities on offer, including conferences, exhibitions, roundtable meetings, B2B matchings, achievements releases, ad-hoc meetings, and community tours. This edition will consist of one main forum and four specialised sub-forums. The Legal & Sustainable Timber Display will also return, featuring over 30 booths showcasing global sustainable logs, timber products, furniture, home furnishings, forest products, and digital technology advances.

The Ad-hoc Macao Financing & Investment Matching will also be held for the first time during the forum, providing a cross-border matching platform for global timber enterprises seeking investment and financing. Furthermore, several Macao-based organisations will unveil the International Cooperation and Innovation Center for Green Transformation of Global Supply Chain, and will begin drafting the Standard for Biomass Aviation Fuel and the Macao Green Standard Management System, thereby further strengthening Macao’s capacity building in green standards, innovative applications, and industrial synergy.
