UTM Extends into University Town, Bringing Quality International Education to Hengqin

MACAU, August 17 - As the 2026/2027 academic year commences, the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) is launching its postgraduate teaching activities at first phase of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town. This milestone marks the beginning of UTM’s extended campus operations within the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone, enabling the University to bring more high-quality international education resources to the Zone.

In this academic year, over 200 UTM postgraduate students will enjoy a cross‑border learning experience, splitting their time between campuses in Macao and Hengqin. First phase of the University Town is dedicated to postgraduate education, offering master’s and doctoral programmes in fields such as Innovative Hospitality Management, Digital Marketing and Analytics, and Business Administration. Dual master’s degree collaborations are also in place with partner institutions including the University of Queensland (Australia), the University of Surrey (UK), ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon (Portugal), and César Ritz Colleges Switzerland.

Located at the Dezhi Plaza in the Cooperation Zone, first phase of the University Town enjoys well‑equipped teaching and living facilities. The campus is approximately three kilometres from the Hengqin Port, which operates 24‑hour customs clearance, providing convenient cross‑border access for students travelling between Macao’s campuses and commercial areas. To support students’ adaptation to the dual‑city study model, UTM offers a range of student activities and personal development support services at the new campus, helping postgraduates transition smoothly into their new environment.

Working in a “three‑in‑one” collaborative model with the other two Macao public universities, UTM will jointly manage operations in the first phase of the University Town, building collective experience in operating a comprehensive university precinct. At the same time, the University is steadily advancing the development of third phase of the University Town, laying the groundwork for subsequent phases of teaching and research. Leveraging the Cooperation Zone as a strategic platform, UTM aims to expand its academic offerings and deepen industry‑university‑research integration. The University will also align its efforts with Macao’s “1+4” strategy for appropriate economic diversification and Hengqin’s “four new industries”, nurturing highly‑qualified professionals to support deeper collaboration between Macao and Hengqin.
